TINDAK TUTUR KOMISIF PEDAGANG DI PASAR SUNGAI GELAM MUARO JAMBI PADA BULAN JULI-AGUSTUS 2025

Abstract

This study describes the function of commissive speech acts used by traders at Sungai Gelam Market, Muaro Jambi, during July–August 2025. The background of this study is the linguistic phenomenon in buying and selling interactions, where traders use promises, offers, and commitments to reach agreements with buyers. The method used is descriptive qualitative, using recording techniques to record conversations between traders and buyers. The data obtained were then transcribed, classified, and analyzed based on commissive speech act theory. The results show 109 excerpts of commissive speech acts, including 33 promising, 44 offering, and 32 expressing commitments. Offering is the most dominant form of speech act used, as it serves to attract buyers' attention and encourage transactions. Meanwhile, the promise speech act is used by traders to convince buyers, while the promise speech act expresses their commitment to fulfilling the buyer's request. This research is expected to contribute to the development of pragmatic studies, particularly speech acts in the context of commerce, and serve as a practical reference for traders in communicating more effectively.
